This afternoon I noticed that Network Rail have placed a "wildlife" tracker camera adjacent to the crossing (south side of track) to monitor pedestrian crossing traffic. You are being watched!
We need to remain vigilant as this camera may have been placed to track monitor "normal traffic" during the Art Trial and Big Garage Sale weekend. While on its own not a worry, coupled with what we were told in 2016 at the public consultation meeting it could be open to misinterpretation.
On the 17th June 2016 I attended a consultation where a Network Rail representative explained that whatever the consultation outcome was the Paget Road crossing would be closed.
At that time in 2016 the Paget Road crossing had been pre-assigned a status by Mr Daniel Fisk, crossing manager for the area, as a special case since it is so heavily used and so represents a greater risk. Network Rail also believe, incorrectly, that low cost safer alternatives exist. He would not be drawn on details of how the risk and traffic are assessed.
For us Wivenhoe walkers the rail crossing represents the safest non road vehicle route between quayside properties and the Co-op and the central core of Dene Park and the riverside.

Recently, I contacted the barrister who acted for the Ramblers Assn in the Closure Hearings to find out if she knew any thing and this is her reply -
I am afraid I can impart no knowledge on where we have got to with the Essex decision. You are right that it has been some time now. The Suffolk decision took about 2.5 years from when the inquiry closed. I think the Essex inquiry finally wrapped up in Feb 2019, and was almost three times the size of the Suffolk order (in terms of the number of proposals), so whilst it could come out any day now, it may also be some time off!
So no news is precisely that!
With best wishes to you and all in Wivenhoe,

Out of curiosity did they complete the works which they gave notice of (following the removal of the trees)

I walked across there a few days ago, looks like the crossing has been refurbished, although I can’t say I noticed if any trees had been cut back.

Has anyone heard the crossing alarm/sounder at Paget Road? I've only heard it once or twice in the last couple of days!

***Night works planned for this Saturday 11th - 23.30 to 7am***
Chainsaws and lighting will be in action this weekend.
Whilst the network rail letter claims they will do a site survey for wildlife - suspect in reality unlikely.
Ear plugs at the ready!
