INFORMATION FOR CLIENTS, VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS
WMA was formed in March 2020 to support the community during the Covid crisis. However, a combination of the success of the vaccination programme (with most WMA clients having had their 2nd jab) and the relaxation of lockdown restrictions has resulted in the decision to cease our services on Friday May 21st.
WMA CLIENTS. For the past few weeks, regular callers to the WMA Helpline have been given notice of our services coming to an end, and this week, posters and leaflets are being distributed across Wivenhoe setting out options for clients to continue having prescriptions delivered. In addition, the leaflets remind the community that the charity Helping Hands has operated in Wivenhoe for over 10 years, collecting prescriptions, ferrying people to hospital, doctors and dentists, and shopping for elderly and vulnerable residents.
WMA VOLUNTEERS. The committee would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the wonderfully enthusiastic volunteers who came forward to support WMA 14 months ago. We were inundated with many offers of help, which in some cases we were unable to take up because friends and neighbours were befriending and supporting their isolated and vulnerable neighbours. All offers were much appreciated and demonstrated the altruistic community spirit in Wivenhoe; many clients have asked me to pass their sincere gratitude on to all volunteers involved. When the regulations allow, WTC are planning to organise a civic get-together and WMA volunteers will receive an invitation to the event.
Many of you who volunteered for WMA have expressed an interest in continuing volunteering in the community, and some of us have already to offered our services to Helping Hands; more volunteers are always welcome, especially, but not exclusively, those with driving licences. If you are interested, please ring Helping Hands on 07834 452764 for details.
WMA DONORS. We would also like to thank all those who made donations to WMA, their generosity is much appreciated; it has been agreed that the balance of over £3,500 in the account will be used to fund projects jointly with WTC for the benefit of the whole community.
