Hi Patrick. I am a Committee member too. We do not own this website but as you correctly observe, it and all its content become the property of the owner of the site. This follows the same model as Facebook I think.
Would you be interested in joining the board to help with these issues? Peter Hill (former long-time Town Cllr and former Town Mayor)

I'm very hesitant about handing over my information to a faceless organisation. It doesn't sound very community minded.
Do you have a link for your moderation policy please? I'd be a little concerned about the control that ProBoards has. The company could close down Wivenhoe Life overnight. There is no community control over this.

Hi Patrick They could do but why would they? They want people to use their system. They sell adverts on the platform. That's they way they fund it. At the moment, this community website is free for us to provide it as a platform to the people of Wivenhoe. I'm afraid I don't see the problem. Clearly people should be sensible and not share personal details or information on this platform. This includes hiding their real identity if they want. We have published some guidelines how we want people to behave towards others when posting their views on this platform. These guidelines set the tone for future behaviour. I am quite sure those of my colleagues who have said they are willing to be Moderators will from time to time come across a post which does not read well and could be construed by some people as offensive. They need to be ready to act. We, and they, are feeling their way, as we go forward. I hope that helps. Peter

Hi, I'm Adrian Multon, a local freelance photographer and volunteer moderator on this forum.
This is perhaps a good thread on which to mention that we are still looking for people to help run the forum.
So, if you have strong opinions about how Wivenhoelife might develop, please volunteer to join us.
Thanks,
Adrian

It's disappointing to see this site allowing political advertising in the run up to local elections. Does this mean that Wivenhoe Life supports the far right policies of the Reclaim Party? These include breaking lockdown restrictions, anti-Covid vaccinations and not wearing a facemark in public places. The party also seems in denial about Covid deaths.

Hi, I can't see any political adverts, so am curious as to what you refer to?

I’m no expert, but aren’t the adds you see often influenced by your browsing history, so we all see different adds, I certainly haven’t seen the add you refer to.
