Why is the admin for this internet website posting behind a pseudonym?

Hi
It is my nickname. Murf is my last name and the two other capitals relate to the size of my waist. ππ»

To add I appreciate the subject of pseudonyms can be hotly debated on a number of forums and channels - we decided to allow. We welcome people to post under all names as we have a wonderful group of volunteer moderators who will ensure everyone that uses the forum can do so in a safe environment.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm still non the wiser. Why the lack of transparency from the person who has set up this internet site? It doesn't set a good example for others to follow.

Hi - hopefully we can reach a place where everyone can feel that the forum is a nice place to be whether they are using a pseudonym or otherwise. We debated at length when we set up and came to the conclusion that we could not patrol usernames in too much detail and thought we would be rather open. I appreciate that concerns are where trolls may hide under made up names this can be uncomfortable and unacceptable for users. But our moderators will ensure that itβs a troll free zone regardless of users name.

That's all good to hear. I appreciate the need to allow some users the freedom to be able to post up anonymously. I would personally rather know the identity of who is moderating me.

Hi Again - I have spoken with the other volunteers and we will have as an agenda item on our next meeting as all fair and valid points: I have updated my user name too. You can always dm us at any time too. We really do want to make the forum a nice a pleasant place for all that visit.

Thank you for the update. But you still have a pseudonym. It doesn't feel very welcoming to have a forum owner who doesn't display their full name to the community.

Hi Patrick, To provide some transparency, I'm one of the forum volunteer team I've been part of the Wivenhoe Community since 1964 so I would like this forum to bring people together. I'm Daryl Williamson

..and Iβve updated my user name too. So hopefully should provide some comfort. I absolutely understand the need for the forum to be a place where all users can feel comfortable. Thank you Patrick. All points well made. ππ»

I'm afraid I'm still seeing a pseudonym for the site owner. My computer said: BF Murphy-whymark, rather than a real name. Maybe it's an internet connection that might take some time to change? Thank you forum owner, whoever you are, for updating. Hopefully your real identity will be visible to all soon!

Iβm possibly one of only five murphy-whymarks in the world. Iβm the largest one hence BF. Also the oldest. I am not the owner of the site - although I did set it up (more trial and error) the owners are the users - and we now have a great committee/ all in place to ensure that the forum is truly owned by the community- although I did pay a few minor pounds to register the site etc.
I am Nicholas murphy-whymark of Wivenhoe some 23 years a resident. ππ»

Thank you for the update Nick.
Isn't the site and content owned by ProBoards though?
From your Terms of Use:
"All content and other materials available through the Website and Services, including without limitation the ProBoards logo, design, text, graphics, and other files, and the selection, arrangement and organization thereof, are either owned by ProBoards, Inc or are the property of ProBoards' licensors and suppliers."
So any information or photos shared here are actually owned by ProBoards. The organisation is free to do what it wants with this content, and who to sell it on to.

Patrick, the extract from the terms relates to the infrastructure, design and formatting of the service designed to protect the intellectual property rights of Proboards. There is a separate definition of the privacy policy employed to govern the content of users. At present we have chosen not to store images on the forum.Β Β
