Having completed the Transformation Project which involved the removal of the fixed pews from the Nave, replacing the flooring, building an Annexe with a kitchen, toilets and a new entrance for those with mobility issues on the south side of the church, it was decided that it was time to celebrate.
On Saturday 25th September St. Mary’s Church invites the Wivenhoe community and those from further afield to come and join in our celebration which is in the form of a Market and the popular Scrufts event which provides a map for a dog walk and an opportunity to enter the dog with the waggiest tail competition at 13.00.
There will be lots of stalls on the day being run by organisations and local people providing all sorts of items for sale and to take part in. Lyon Crafts for instance will be selling their fabulous cards and prints of local views and there will be the Wivenhoe themed items on sale by the Friends of St Mary’s. There will be handmade jewellery and glass items; knitted goods and fabric items on sale and lots lots more.
The event begins with the Town Mayor of Wivenhoe, Cllr Andrea Luxford Vaughan opening the Market at 10.00 a.m. and it will continue until 14.30. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the event in the new Annexe which is well worth a visit.
Bishop of Colchester – Sunday 26th September
The Bishop of Colchester, the Right Reverend Roger Morris, will be presiding at the 10.30 am Morning Service at St. Mary’s Wivenhoe on Sunday 26th September.
During this special service he will bless the newly constructed Annexe and the alterations within the Nave. He was present when the Appeal for funding and support was launched three years ago and it is brilliant that he is returning to see the fruits of those who have worked so hard to bring the Transformation Project to its completion.
The Project involved removal of the fixed pews and replacing them with chairs, new oak flooring has been put in place which, when needed, provides a flexible area for worship as well as a community space for organisations to use. The new Annexe can accommodate 40 people for a meeting or event and has an excellent kitchen, toilets and a new south porch which provides level access to all parts of the building.
